Randall Cunningham

Artist Statement

Randall Cunningham was a player ahead of his time. His size and athleticism made him truly unique in an era of pocket-passing quarterbacks. Here was a quarterback who was more than mobile—he was incredibly nimble and elusive, and tough to tackle once he scrambled out of the pocket. He kept many a defensive coordinator up at night trying to come up with a game plan to defend him. What made Randall even more special was his arm. His ability to accurately throw on the run made him the most dangerous offensive weapon in the game during his era. A cannon of an arm with radar-like precision, combined with his rushing capabilities, made him one of my favorites. 

A human highlight film at times, Randall was always shown making spectacular running plays. I wanted to create an image that captured his intelligence and passing ability when it came to reading a defense. Despite what a defense threw at him, Randall was able to use his creativity to confound his opponents and prevail. If things got really tough he could always rely on his rocket arm.
